Within a Flash of Pantsu

I think it's about time I embrace what I truly am. And I am an ecchi man... Yes, it's hard to admit, but Mr. Fat Bastard (who's as ecchi, by the way) found me out real fast after several weekly posts at DannyChoo.com and Figure.FM. So I figured, I might as well make it official... "Within a Flash of Lightning" is no more, long live "Within a Flash of Pantsu"!

HAPPY APRIL FOOL'S!
My nickname on this blog also changed to "Ecchi Man", but the web address stays the same... It'd make it really difficult for others to relink... Maybe when I get my own domain. I don't want to change other nicknames in other places either... This will be strictly on my blog which will focus more on ecchiness from now on.

So what better way to change the header but using Hatsune Miku, who single-handedly revolutionized the shimapan/striped pantsu. I had many choices on which picture to use, but I think what's up there now is the best that fits what I'm looking for.

I wouldn't mind using this one, but my plan was to put the title in the stripes of the pantsu. I could've placed the blog title on the back of her hips though.

This one is nice... but too much wrinkles in the pantsu... It would've been hard to place text there. Oh and isn't it so true that "The Ecchiness Begins Within a Flash of Pantsu"? I think a lot of ecchi things in anime begins with just that flash... I think a flash from Sailor Moon's super short skirt would be enough to put young boys in a tizzy! Ok, Sailor Moon's not really pantsu, but they don't know any better.

Which brings up what I will post after this official change... Bakemonogatari will be first to be spotlighted in this new format. That show, after all the quick flashes of scenes, begins with a flash of pantsu!

I was considering using this, but I thought it was too square for a header. It looks very good, ne? I've changed little bits of the colours in the text to match some of the best colours of pantsu. Hopefully it's not that hard to see. I know pink is much too light using my background.

So, hopefully you'll still join me in my way of life as I embrace the ecchi in me!

Guilty Gear: Baiken

guilty gear cosplay - baikenDuring one of the Gears' attacks on the colonies, the young Baiken watched both her parents die before her and ended up losing her right arm and her left eye. However, it was during this chaos when she was able to witness the real culprit behind the attack, the Creator of the Gears. She then swore to hunt "that man" down and seek her vengeance.

Beautiful cosplay! I have never seen this character in the Guilty Gear games I played, but I heard the tatami mat was something of a signature move of hers? Thanks to Wilson for sending this in!

GamerTotoy Final Soapbox?

It has been exactly a year since "Top 7 Reasons Why Cosplayers Are Pathetic" hit the net and enraged an unprecedented number of dress-up freaks with the unspoken truths it relentlessly exclaimed to the hypocritical public. Whiny bitches cried foul over an article that merely offered hard-hitting critique unabated by foolhardy contention. Delusional idiots said, "No, you are full of crap! Lies! Uncouth tall tale!" Deep inside, they were hurting. Reality has come to them, and boy was it scathingly harsh.

What GamerTotoy was trying to do, people asked. Did he hate the cosplay community so that he calls them horrible performers, socially retarded, and sexually awkward? Was there a motive behind pointing out the flaws of a pervert ridden, child molesting, brain meltingly dumb crowd?

After a long period of absence from this blog, I have come to answer the lingering questions and perhaps enlighten your struggling souls. You cretins better be thankful.

It all started when I met a certain cosplayer. She was the oddest thing I've ever encountered. Things happened, and in the end, she had to leave the convoluted cosplay world. Then I had the craziest idea. "Okay, I'll clean it up so you'd have something nice to come back to!"

And so right before April Fools' like a prank that rocked the entire neighborhood, GT's wrath dawned on the hapless cosplaying 'tards. The first anti-cosplay diatribe launched, and within minutes garnered hate and resentment from hundreds of unsuspecting closet nerds and attention whores. What GT originally thought to be a tedious process banged at his doorstep like an angry mob of crybabies with milk bottles as pitchforks. Like a one-trick pony, the puny little blog post launched GT to stardom overnight.

After that, as they say, the rest is history. The grueling fight against nasty looking camwhores, evil scheming dirty old men, sneaky perv photographer bastards and politicking prima donna bitches kicked off and placed GT at the helm as the vanguard of cosplay purists in dire need of a better cosplay community.

Behind the blogging activities, I met a lot of interesting personalities tightly knitted to cosplay. I can't indulge the details here, but suffice to say it has been the longest year of my life so far and I've learned to never mess with girls who are into dressing up ever again.

Now, as you may have noticed, I am no longer able to keep this place as active as it used to be. It's not about lacking ideas in what to do next as much as it is about the absence of motivation. The girl I wanted to fix the cosplay world for is at a safe distance away from the shit hole with no indications of coming back. There is no longer a reason for me to vouch for a safer, smarter, more competent, less retarded and perv-free cosplay populace.

If you want GT and his crew to stay and provide you guys with a fun place to visit whenever you're in the mood for good 'ol cosplay scum shaming and bashing, give us a damn good reason to. Otherwise, we're off to greener pastures as we have bigger projects in the works that will achieve far greater than what Pinoy Cosplay has in its heyday.

Durarara!!: Orihara Izaya

durarara!! cosplay - orihara izayaA master of parkour and very skilled with a flickblade, Izaya is a young man who enjoys torturing everyone and then observing their reactions because he "loves" the human race. He also enjoys giving Heiwajima Shizuo a hard time; such as having local gangs attack him framing him for crimes he didn't commit. Izaya's name is based on the biblical Isaiah and means "the one who looks over the crowd" in Japanese.

Cosplayer 香吏 (Kaori Ri) makes a convincingly great Izaya! I love how classy Izara is portrayed here. Character requested by Amelia!

Packing for conventions

Convention season has started here in Finland. We are not yet sure which ones we are going to attend, but the great wheels are turning. In the meanwhile, waiting to see if our schedules’ match and how our bank accounts relate to travelling, I thought of revealing our strategy of packing for conventions. This post is based on the experiences of train and car travelling.

First thing is to see that you have everything ready before you start. We make a list of all the objects we need for the cosplay. Nothing will be left out and the direction is usually from top to bottom and from inside to outside. When you have all items checked and in front of you, you can start packing. Golden rule for packing is to put heavier things on the bottom and lighter ones on the top to avoid crushing effect and un-wanted wrinkles. On the bottom of your bag you can also stuff your civil clothes, they don't matter as much as your cosplay gear.

Always iron your clothes before packing! And have a proper sized bag or suitcase, not a back bag where you just stuff everything.

Things like jeans, t-shirts and tricot can be rolled. They don't wrinkle easily and rolling also saves space. If you have boots or shoes other than sandals, you can put the garment rolls inside them. I usually put the shoes in their own plastic bags to protect clothes from getting dirty and to make their positioning in the bag easier. Pack the things which don’t really need any folding attention, like bandages and socks to fill the gaps and to make a nice bed for the more meaningful items.

Dress shirts should be buttoned and folded like in stores. Press out any wrinkles and check the sleeves that they are neatly folded. Here is a one way of doing it. Items like jacket, suits and skirts can be folded and recommendable is to pack them in a garment bag or a plastic bag, possibly ones from dry cleaners or just any garbage bag. Avoid too many folds though. Lay the items in the top of everything else.

Accessories and other small props we usually pack inside characters own carriage, like pouches and just place them inside the bag to fill gaps or carry as they are, like a back bag. If they are delicate we put them inside paper towels and plastic.

Armour parts we carry in hand in a tote or a bag. They take space, but better to see the effort than to find them crushed in your luggage. For swords we have made a special bag that we can carry on our backs. Takes away some un-wanted attention. It's wise to cushion the sharp points and to wrap every item in a plastic, to avoid scratches and paintjob failures.

Wigs we carry on our heads, on wig heads, possibly inside a box well secured or neatly rolled or folded in a hair net and a plastic bag in the luggage. It really depends on the wig which of these is the best solution. Hats we carry in hand in their own carriage, if needed stuffed with newspapers and other reinforcements.

When you are done travelling, immediatilly un-pack your bags. Take few hangers with you just instead. Put the clothes on hangers and if they have wrinkles, place them in the bathroom after shower. The steam will flatten the garments a bit. If you have opportunity to iron your clothes, do it. Hairdryer works also in some extent.

Always take at least a sewing kit with you. We carry around a cosplay kit, where we pack our contact lenses, make-up, binding materials, small accessories possibly with spares, scissors, tapes, glues, small containers of paint... you get the point. Anything we could need to fix the costume if something happened.

And ALWAYS remember to pack your personal stuff. Taking care of your personal hygiene makes your cosplay experience much more pleasing... for others too. Remember to take regular painkillers, possibly your prescription drugs, sunblock (summer cons obviosly) and your ID with you. Carry your ID around all the time in case of something bad happens. Preferably do the packing in one sitting. It's more likely that you forget something (possibly important part of your costume, like... shirt?) if you pack some here and there.

Birthday of Ayanami: Shrine Update

So with the additional new Rei figures, I have to update the shrine, don't I? ^_^ This is part 4 of my Birthday of Ayanami series of posts on March 30th. Rei's birthday is actually based on Megumi Hayashibara's birthday, her voice actress. Megumi is also my favourite voice actress.

The new ones immediately gets front stage... Well just because they work better up front, plus I'm too lazy to move stuff from the back to the front. It seems to work.

The Rei Russian nesting dolls had to move down one level. I could easily put them back into the large one, but then what's the point? It's blocking some of the smaller figures, but still good.

And here it is from a different angle... But wait... where'd the Real Action Heroes Rei (Bandage Ver.) that I just got? Oops... Looks like Saber Lily's got a hold of it...

The Melancholy of Saber Lily Special 4

Pardon the panel recycling, lol. I wanted to finish this before the end of March 30th on this end of the Pacific ^^; This is also posted on The Melancholy of Saber Lily site.

So, yes, Saber reminds me that March 30th is not just Ayanami Rei's birthday, but also Ayako Kawasumi's birthday. She's the voice of Saber and also my second favourite actress. I've discovered Ayako while I was watching Niea_7.

She doesn't play the titular character in NieA_7, but she plays one of the protagonists. The DVD was released by the now defunct Geneon which used to be called Pioneer.

This is one of my favourite picture of Aoi Sakuraba from Ai Yori Aoshi, also voiced by Ayako Kawasumi. I was watching Ai Yori Aoshi around the same time as NieA_7. This DVD was also from Pioneer/Geneon. Later on I found more and more roles played by Ayako and I was slowly falling in love with her voice and I wanted to watch more and more of her shows! I still try nowadays, but sometimes the shows that she is in aren't that great ^^;  I enjoyed Queen's Blade though, where she played the main character, Reina.

And finally I leave you with Ayako's cutest role, Unagi, the ferret from Popotan ^_^

Thank you for joining me in celebrating Ayanami Rei, Megumi Hayashibara and Ayako Kawasumi's birthday today on March 30th!

Birthday of Ayanami: Real Action Heroes

Ayanami Rei, real action hero? Kinda... but this is Medicom's Real Action Heroes series featuring Ayanami Rei, Bandage Version. I was going to put this in the previous figure post, but I had so many pictures already, so I figured giving this one a separate post would be nice. Plus I added some extra bonuses for this post :)
This is part 3 of my Birthday of Ayanami series of posts on March 30th. Rei's birthday is actually based on Megumi Hayashibara's birthday, her voice actress. Megumi is also my favourite voice actress.

The opportunity to own this Rei came unexpectedly when I came to work one morning. HLJ was having their spring sale. This Rei was staring at my face at 50% off! I was considering whether to get this one or a resin figure that was paired with Asuka. In the end, this was much cheaper than that one ^^;

I thought this was going to be the bigger box, but the Uplark was actually bigger... even though the Rei inside is really, really tiny.

Here's the full pose. She also comes with a stand, which I haven't opened yet. I've been playing around with her already so there are some wrinkles in the plugsuit already...  Can I consider her as "my daughter"? It's not really a Dollfie though ^^;

The bandage around her chest is real cloth. Pretty cool.

The bandage on her head (and arms) aren't... Still ok though ^^

Even injured, Rei can strike a pose!

Showing the back angle... And no, I didn't purposely pose her in a provocative position... I have no idea what you're talking about...

Close-up on the bottom of her foot.

Close up of her cast. You could barely move this arm. I couldn't rotate the upper arm. I'm afraid of breaking it.

The bandages on her other arm.

Here she is holding the Kaiyodo figure from my previous post. No, I didn't purposely positioned the static figure's hand on the boobs... Seriously!

And here she is holding her bandaged sisters... Revoltech Rei, bandage version and the Kaiyodo mini figure.

Add another sister to the photo shoot. Great balancing act! She's a REAL Action Hero!

A great family shot!
