Mini Anime/Doll Meet - 03.12.2011

And now, starting on my backlog of photos that I didn't post yet... It was a very busy March. Starting from the end of February to be exact. I was preparing the April Fool's joke that I planned with Chun and then started work my 200th post with the stop motion video, and then work 6 days a week when one of my co-workers were off on vacation. It was very busy, but I figured I should have some fun while I have my days off. So on the second Saturday, I had a mini meet at my place... But I didn't plan it ^^; Meaning I just provide the place, but I didn't arrange it, hahaha.

The purpose was to meet up, hang out and maybe watch anime... We pretty much just do what we do at doll meets though ^^;  Lots of doll posings, lots of shenanigans, lol. More photos in my Photobucket Album.

I normally don't take pictures with flash anymore, but this was an exception. This doll is Airs'. The eyes look pretty normal when you have enough light with the photo, but when you use a flash, the eyes "glow" and have a very bright colour. Unfortunately I've forgotten what kind of eyes these are...

The boys hang out... It's nice when I have meets at home. I could bring all my toys out to play with XD

Black Rock Shooter is trying to peek...

Very, very random photo... What the heck is that Gundam doing? ^^;

Faiz finds a new mate.

After the dolls hang out we finally get around to watching some anime... After playing PS3 Move for a bit ^^; We watched first episodes of Star Driver, Bakuman, and the third episode of Puella Magi Madoka Magica... Yea, we skipped to that part :P

We also watched a short clip of Gunpla Builders Beginning G to watch Beargguy in action...

Azunyan and Yui were in different clothing in the beginning of the night, btw ^^;
Even though it was only 4 of us for this mini meet, we had quite a lot of fun. So the next month, which was just a week ago, we held another one at my place again with more people this time. Hopefully we'll have more like it and hang out some more ^_^ If you're (visiting) in the Vancouver area, you can always give me a head's up and have a little gathering. :)

Iron Miku 2+

I thought I'd try out another stop motion with Iron Miku. It's good timing too that the home video release of Iron Man 2 is coming out in 3 more days over here. Good timing, right? ...Well to be honest, I've been working on this since the beginning of this month and I got really lazy to finish it up until now. Oh and I did have that shoulder pain around Labor Day, so I have a part of an excuse to not be able to work on this.

However, I realized that I should finish this, especially for today, since today is my second Blogday. Yep, I've been blogging for 2 years now. Time flies. Last year I did a custom Gundam project, same with the first year I started. I don't have much time this year unfortunately, but I did work on this project... I guess I'll use it to celebrate this second year ^^;

Unlike the first Iron Miku "stop-motion" project, I wanted to somehow fit the transformation into the 4koma comic. I realize that I don't have the coding skills to do that, so I did whatever's close... So I don't want to delay this anymore and let you have a go at it...

The Melancholy of Saber Lily Part 39

Ironically I didn't realize myself that I put Miku in the 39th Melancholy of Saber Lily 4koma... What a coincidence! Everything just seems to fall into place, hahaha. Anyway... I'm planning to do a full video for this particular part just to make it flow better, but I have no time yet...

You can read the rest of the 4koma on the Melancholy of Saber Lily site.

Just let me say that I was way too ambitious again to do this... I don't think I was able to make everything work the way it should've work in my mind. I was still too lazy to move the figures slightly to make an actual stop motion, so I let all the Photoshop editing do all the work this time. Maybe if I had more time...

A deleted scene. It's Miku reaching in, but I think it looks like she just fell on to the book ^^;
Right about now I feel like doing what Miku is doing in the above picture... Just slam myself down and get some rest... But I still got that one more video to make. I did have a retrospect post for my first year of blogging... I don't know if I'll be doing one or not this year. I'm completely tuckered out. The only thing that kept me sane while creating this project was the new Netflix Canada, and I watched a lot of Mythbusters for almost the whole time I was working on this. Oh and if anyone's curious how long I did this... I have no idea... I didn't keep track of how long I did this, lol. It's only 20 seconds after all, but it felt like 20 days worth of work with what I got.

EDIT: Here's the video version of the 4koma comic.

Finally finished it after a lot of procrastination. Found quite a lot of challenge with it, mostly I had to re-edit the original transformation so it looks better. I added sound effects and added more music since it's longer. This was actually quite fun when I almost finished the video. I'm surprised it worked out... The timing is a little off, but it's not too bad... Phew!

Anyhoo, in case I don't do an annual blog retrospect... Thank you very much everyone who supported, commented, contributed, read, wrote about, visited my blog! It's been a hell of a year, and I couldn't do a lot of these without you who are out there reading this. I'd list my blog stats and all, but that's not very interesting even if there are almost 92,000 visitors and over 150,000 page views...... Thank you! I hope I'll still be here for the third year ^^;

Admirin' Iron Man 2

After watching the first teaser trailer for the first Iron Man movie, I knew I want... nay, NEED to watch it! I regretted not watching Iron Man right away in 2008, and I regretted not watching it enough multiple times in the theatres. So with the release of Iron Man 2, I had the opportunity to watch it right away and I took it! I even stayed up late to get Iron Miku up and running before I go to the IMAX version at 10 AM on Friday... The IMAX screen really showed the details well, but I don't think it's necessary to watch this movie, especially if you have to pay extra $5 to watch it.

Ok, to be honest, I didn't feel like it lived up to the first movie. That's how I felt from my first viewing. I think there were too many things going on in the story. However, the action really escalated compared to the first one. War Machine was a character I really liked when I first seen him in the comics. At the time Rhodey don the armor because supposedly Tony Stark died in the comics. Tony is shown that he is slowly being poisoned by his own tech in the beginning, so it's almost similar to the comics. The similarities end there. Let's just say War Machine and Iron Man came to terms and whupped some baddies in the most grandiose style! I was skeptical about Don Cheadle when he was cast as Rhodey. I have to say he filled his role well. I do wish he had the comic appearance, but not a big deal. It would help the illusion that he's badass Rhodey.

Even though I liked the origins and the creation of the Iron Man armor in the first movie, I thought it lacked some action. The sequel really made up for that. The suitcase armor from the comics and the animated series make its appearance in the movie and easily created one of the coolest scenes in the movie. Can't say it's the coolest armor though... War Machine takes the cake on that one. I'm still looking for the action figure right now... Despite the coolness of War Machine, I do have some complains.

SPOILER ALERT
The text is spoilers, but feel free to scroll down for just the pictures. Please make sure to put "Spoiler Alert" if you're mentioning major plot points in the comments.

I have to say that some of the science in the movie is too coincidentally convenient. The plot where Tony is dying because of what's keeping him alive is great, but it does create a plothole and it was filled by that convenient science.

Did he get squashed by the can or did his head turn into the can? Or perhaps he's drinking from it... Dr. Pepper was on special; 2 cans for $2... Except I don't like Dr. Pepper.

I was rather impressed and uncomfortable at the same time when Tony was drunk and was fully armored as Iron Man. It shows how uneasy and realistic it felt to me because that armor is dangerous, especially when the guy in it is wasted! No one got hurt except for Tony's ego. It's like a typical second part of movie series though, that it is much darker this way. I did feel how dark it was, especially with the AWI (Armored  While Intoxicated) scene and Tony's mortality.

Mickey Rourke wasn't too bad. I didn't have a problem with his performance at all. He died a bit too quickly though, even when armored. Guess he wasn't too smart... Justin Hammer played by Sam Rockwell was awful. No, not his performance that was awful, but the character... I think Rockwell really pulled off the annoying character all to well because I hated Justin Hammer from the get go. Probably what we were supposed to feel for this guy.

Black Widow was great! Scarlet Johanssen really trained quite well for this role. She kicked a lot of ass and looked good doing it! I really hope she gets a role in the Avengers movie. Jon Favreau had more appearances and lines in this one. That's his right as a director, I suppose, but he is a good comedic actor as well, so I didn't mind it as much. Gwyneth Paltrow played a smaller role compared to the first movie, and I wished she did more. She had to split her screen time with Johanssen, I suppose. Even though Sam Jackson as Fury had more time here, it didn't feel like he did anything...

It really was War Machine that stole the show for me. His appearance wasn't until the end, but his armor just looked so good, that I wouldn't mind repeating those scenes over and over again. One of my favourite lines was Rhodey being asked by Hammer which weapons he wants on his brand new stolen Iron Man armor, and he says he'll take it as he surveys a table full of arsenal. Hammer asks, "which one?" to which Rhodey responded with, "all of it". And War Machine was born! It's too bad when they had the big flying chase scene that some of the details were lost due to the speed... It wasn't until they landed on the ground for the final battle that we finally get to see War Machine in full fighting details. FRICKING AWESOME! That chain gun on his shoulder was just too damn cool as it targets ones from behind him while he shoots in front of him. Metal parts and oil flying around his face creating black-coloured oil bukkake.

I'm hoping to see this at least one more time and hoping to catch some more easter eggs hidden in these frames. I was so freaking thrilled to see Thor's hammer at the end! I wonder if that continues to his movie next year. Hopefully you folks stayed behind to watch this after the credits ^^;

Iron Miku Suits Up

If you're reading this at 10 AM on Friday, the seventh of May, that means I'm at the IMAX theatre watching Iron Man 2. When the first movie came out, it was a sure thing that I will watch it. The trailer just made it so damn cool and when I did see it, I regretted it... That I didn't watch it on the first day! I think it was even better than Dark Knight that came out in the same year, in my opinion :P

The horror! The horror!!! This is what happens when I'm trying to fit Drossel's pieces with Miku...

One of my favourite scenes was Tony Stark suiting up into the Iron Man armor. I remember Kodomut had Kagamiku suiting up as Drossel and that was before I thought about buying Drossel. I kept changing back and forth whether I want to get Drossel or not, but another post by Kodomut just confirmed my desire...

One of the deleted pictures from the video. I was intending to use this to armor up Miku's twin tails, but Miku end up blurry on Drossel's body, so I canceled this scene. It was an additional scene not in the original clip. Speaking of original clip...

The idea was similar, but since I don't have Kagamiku, I used the original Hatsune Miku instead. And instead of just pictures, I thought I'd do a stop motion movie featuring Hatsune Miku suiting up as Drossel!! But yea... I don't have time for that. So you get a slideshow instead :P

So yeah, somehow i managed to do most of this video in one night. I didn't edit a lot of the photos, so I apologize for some of the blurry pictures. I didn't feel like redoing some of those shots ^^;

Key, eat your heart out! This is Miku the Metal Idol!

I had lots of fun coming up with ideas to celebrate Iron Man 2's release in theatres this weekend (I noticed it was released first in Asia! Good news since they usually get their movies much, much later ^^). The picture above was one of them. I thought to myself... why stop there after making so much complications taking off Figma pieces here and there? Let's go make a 4koma too!

The Melancholy of Saber Lily Part 36

This was meant to be non-sequential except for the last two panels, but you can interpret it anyway you want. I was just having fun coming up with panels ^_^ In case you're looking for the references... The first panel refers to one of the earlier 4koma back in May of 2009! The last panel reference is not too far back from last week. You can read more at The Melancholy of Saber Lily site.

And yes, NenDorossel's twin tail fits into Nendo Miku's head! Kawaii ne?

Another deleted scene... This was a low-light photo anyway. It was meant to show up NenDorossel's shining eyes, but unfortunately I forgot to switch Miku's bodies with Drossel's...

Iron Miku in flight.

I'm surprised I finished this faster than I thought, but then again I wasn't doing any stop motion. I also just finished everything else after I went and see Video Games Live at Queen Elizabeth Theatre on Thursday night. That will be another post yet to come. It's been a very busy week for me ^^;

Otaku Around the House

It's getting cold around here in Vancouver, so around the house is cold as well because of the granite floors here. So my feet is the first to react to the temperature... My solution? Totoro slippers!

Louise has a change of face to reflect my current situation... sorta. I get quite ticked off at work that sometimes I'm on the verge of tears of anger. I guess that's my self anger management ^^;

My cap... I wear it on rainy days or just any day really... It's really helpful these days when it is raining so it prevents my glasses from getting wet.

Ummm... I better stay alert in the morning...

Future home of Saber Lily. I think I'm ready to put her in there, but kinda lazy. Or maybe not lazy, but just doing a lot of work on the computer.

Finally I took pictures of my Iron Man statue that I got from HLJ way back in their Summer Sale. This statue was 60% off its original price. I pre-ordered an Iron Man bust from a comic book store, but I never got it... So instead I've spent the same amount of money on the full size statue!

And it lights up! The smaller Iron Man action figure is for scale purposes. I was telling my co-worker about the big statue that I got for quite cheap. Ok, cheap is not really the word, but less expensive than its original price... I can't remember who made that action figure, but the statue is from Kotobukiya.

I really wanted an Iron Man merchandise ever since the movie last year. It was just one of the best comic book superheroes movie I've seen!

Just to show how it looks like in the dark ^^

This has been an intermission between two Melancholy of Saber Lily comics XD
